The AGM was held on the 26th of May. The officers agreed to stay on for another year to see the project through. The feedback over the past six months has been very positive with a wide range of people attending the activities. The committee was thanked by the members present, for all the hard work they had done to secure the insurance and a lease for the community.
Ruth Davies agreed to stay on as caretaker and to take booking for the use of the building
The website
We hope this website will keep everyone informed of our project to develop the school as a community centre for Trefeurig. We also intend to provide information on events and activities in the school and surrounding area that might be of interest and benefit to the local community. We hope that what you see will encourage you to participate and support these events, and inspire you to get involved and even organise events/activities yourself.
When the school was open it was the focal point that brought us together, it helped to create the great community spirit that exists in Trefeurig. Hopefully the development of the old school as a community centre, the news letters and this website will help to maintain and even improve the community spirit that many of us value so highly.
To help keep you informed we will be emailing everyone whenever we add significant information to this website. If you wish to be on our list please email us at

Project history
THE NEW YEAR WILL BRING NEW ACTIVITIES IN TREFEURIG’S RURAL VILLAGES!
Thanks to a grant from the WCVA Social Risk fund, residents of the rural villages of Trefeurig will now have the opportunity to learn new skills from internet usage to drumming!
Based in the recently closed Ysgol Trefeurig building, the taster courses which include a range of exercise courses including “Extend” for the older residents, Nordic walking to burn off some of those mince pies and dance classes for the Strictly Come Dancing fans will be organised, along with drumming, IT for beginners and internet usage
Ruth Davies, Project Co-ordinator commented:
“We are very grateful to the WCVA for the £10,000 grant which is enabling us to offer these taster courses free of charge to our community members. Like many other rural communities, we have recently lost many of the services which we have enjoyed in the past. Our older and younger residents, many of whom do not have their own transport, have been particularly badly hit by the withdrawal of the regular bus service, so we felt that we would like to try and put on some new events in the heart of the rural villages.
If we have a positive response from the residents to the taster sessions, we hope to be able to continue the courses and events and make them part of our existing social calendar.”
The Ysgol Trefeurig Development Group applied for the funding as part of the feasibility exercise to assess if the Trefeurig School building can be economically sustained as a community centre.
